Opportunities to Become a Grant Reviewer for Federal Funds

The National Coalition for LGBT Health, in cooperation with the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association, is proud to partner with the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute’s Presidential Appointments Project to find and assist potential LGBT and allied grant reviewers for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

This is an opportunity to not only ensure that LGBT and allied voices are at the decision-making tables, but also for you to gain valuable insight into the HHS grant-making process. We also hope that any Coalition members who have served as HHS grant reviewers in the past will share their experiences with us to improve our effectiveness.

Please let us know whether you’re interested by filling out our questionnaire. By providing your information, we may be able to guide and assist your application, and may reach out to you when new opportunities are identified in the future. Nonetheless, if the opportunities below are of interest, we encourage you to get started on your online or paper application via the direct links below.

We are currently aware of two agencies within HHS that are currently or will soon be actively seeking grant reviewers:

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) seeks new and experienced grant reviewers with expertise in:

  • Health professions training
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Maternal and child health
  • Organ transplantation
  • Primary care for underserved people
  • Rural health

Apply online.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) seeks new and experienced grant reviewers with:

  • background in mental health services and knowledge of community-based systems of care and services for adults with serious mental illnesses and children with serious emotional disturbances.
  • background and knowledge of substance abuse prevention, who have expertise or experience in working with activities that discourage substance abuse and behaviors increasing the risk of substance abuse.
  • expertise in evidence-based effective substance abuse treatment services, programs and activities.

Apply online.

Keep checking back in the future for more opportunities to become a grant reviewer for other divisions within HHS.
